Daniel P. Gorman Medical Illustrator
Dan is a trained Medical Illustrator with his BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art in association with Case Western Reserve University. Dan participated in a five year program at CIA while taking the required Medical School courses for his degree at CWRU. During his collegiate career Dan worked various retail and part time jobs, played guitar in a couple hard rock bands..all while maintaing a full course load which included graduate level Medical School courses as well as some summer school participation. Dan has never been known to take the easy road to any where! Immediately after graduating in May of 1999, Dan took his first full time Illustration position at Med Art & Legal Graphics Co. in Akron, Ohio. Dan started as a Graphic Support Technician and eventually worked his way up to being one of the company's most reliable and proficient Illustrators. It was here that Dan learned how to plan and render images for 2-D Animation Exhibits, read Radiographic films, learn to format information in a logical manner for Demonstrative purposes and to read and comprehend extensive medical records regarding a particular case and transfer that terminology and medicine to visual Exhibits. Dan's time at Med Art helped him hone his Design and Illustration skills and to become a knowledgable professional Medical Illustrator. In 2003 Dan took a position at a Law Firm in Akron, Ohio where he continues to work as the firms only staff Illustrator. Dan handles many visual and Illustrative requests in many different forms and media to create images for both Demonstrative Exhibits and Marketing presentations. Dan continued his training as a videographer and has produced a number of internal training videos and Marketing videos for the firm. Dan creates many of the firms client development slide presentations as well as designing and producing signage and Exhibit Boards for both trial and non-trial purposes. In 2006, Dan partnered with Robert A. Kraus, creator of Chakan; The Forever Man, to create Illustrations for his line of Character Illustrations called "SuperFreaks". After doing a couple Illustrations, both Illustrators realized that Dan's style didn't really fit into the "SuperFreaks" line of characters, so Dan set out to create his own line of Character Illustrations. After three years and over 60 Illustrations, Dan's portfolio reached a volume large enough to have a name and has recently been christened the "FanToons." Dan and RAK still work together and at some point in the near future will collaborate on a as yet to be determined comic book related project. Stay tuned to both this website and the RAK Graphics site for any potential future announcements. 2006 also marked Dan's first foray into Directing as he planned, Directed, Filmed and Produced "One Night at Prospect Place." A two hour video about the Prospect Place Mansion in Dresden, Ohio, which is considered to be one of the most haunted locations in the State. Dan and his partner J. Alan Miller founded DreamForge Studios, a subsidiary of Always Dreaming Enterprises which is credited with backing the endevour. The Full Length DVD can be purchased at Amazon.com and includes bonus commentary by Dan and J. Alan on the making of the video. These days Dan works as a freelance Illustrator, and spends most of his time creating images for his FanToons line of character Illustrations. You might have seen Dan at a comic book or Sci-Fi convention signing prints of his Illustrations or creating custom images in sketch books for fans. Dan currently has a number of personal projects in various stages of completion, and is always coming up with new and exciting projects to work on. If you are attending a show and know Dan will be there, be sure to stop by his table, pick up a print of your favorite character and say hi! Despite his focused and workman like attitude at the shows, Dan is very approachable and loves to talk to fans and to do sketches in sketch books when asked. So don't be shy to stop by his table. He's looking forward to meeting you! |
