"Balance"

Balance

Created in 1997, Balance has been a project in development for quite some time. The character is the brain child of Daniel P. Gorman and J. Alan Miller. Over the past 10 plus years the two creators tried multiple times to get their character in print, but various personal and professional obstacles seemed to always delay the release of their beloved character to you, the teaming masses of Sci-Fi fans who could appreciate the cosmic story they had crafted. In steps Robert A. Kraus who having already established a classic character like Chakan, offered to feature Balance in an installment of his "Journey of 100 Candles Adventure." Together, the three creators merged both the Balance back story and the already intricate Chakan mythos. The result is a tale that we believe is both compelling and entertaining, and sets up the Balance mythology to be examined more closely in his own series of books to be released some time in 2010.

Who or what is Balance? The following is a brief synopsis of the character and an introduction to an epic story of love, loss, and redemption.

Jeff Daylon joined the Marines in 2001 after the attacks of 9-11. Full of patriotism, youthful exuberance, and the overwhelming feeling that he had to pitch in and help defeat an enemy that he felt threatened not only our country, but the lives of his family and friends who he so desperately loved, Jeff became a soldier..a Marine..a Warrior!

Jeff quickly climbed the ranks of the military and found himself in command of a platoon whose job it was to seek out Al-Qaeda operatives and eliminate them. After trusting the information and intelligence given to him by an Iraqi that he had grown to trust...grown to rely on..grown to respect, Jeff made the most fatal and life changing mistake of his entire life. Jeff, believing his Iraqi informant that an Al-Qaeda stronghold was positioned in a specific town on the outskirts of Dhi Qar, lead his men into an ambush. He had been setup! Every single soldier under his command..his care..his protection was mercilessly slaughtered at the hands of Al-Qaeda. Jeff too should have been killed in that raid turned ambush, but he wasn't. At the last moment..before he was about to meet the same fate as his men..Jeff reached into the sand in a desperate hopeless attempt to survive...and it was in that sand that Jeff found an ancient artifact that would change his life forever.

What Jeff found was a cosmic weapon of potentially infinate universal power. A weapon that when combined with a collection of 7 cosmic jewels could imbue it's weilder with the governing power of the universe..The Force Equilibrium.. the Balance force!! In an instant Jeff's very molecules fused with an energy and a pulsating resonance that originated from the very core of our universe... and Jeff transformed into the universal force that keeps the scales of good and evil in check. He became the very thing that binds the universe together and keeps it in a state of perfect equilibrium....perfect harmony. He had become Balance!!

After the events in the desert, Jeff was discharged honorably and given a pass to return home to try and piece his life back together. Burdened with the guilt of leading his men to their deaths..and the overwhelming feeling of failure..Jeff began his slow journey back into civilian life. He set himeself, unbknownst to him..on a journey home. But his journey will not be a straight line from the dark reaches of point A to the redemption he seeks at point B. Because now he is more that a man..he is a universal warrior. He is a protector of our existence. He is the Force Equilibrium incarnate... and that mantle carries with it perils and dangers that are far worse than any evil he ever encountered in the Mesopotamian desert. And he will soon find out that the journey home will take him to both the farthest reaches of the universe..and the darkest deepest corners of his own soul. Jeff Daylon is our only hope for survival against an evil that does not know nor has ever known defeat. If he can't come to terms with both his mortal existence and his new found galactic personae, then everything we have ever known and will ever know..is doomed! Jeff must find a way to transcend his sarrow..and be the vessel that restores Balance to an unbalanced universe. This is his story.
